Report: Kawhi Leonard Has A New "Preferred" Trade Destination

kawhi leonard speaks at nba all-star weekend

Kawhi Leonard wants to end up in Los Angeles. The San Antonio Spurs star requested a trade last month, with Southern California as the ideal landing spot. The Lakers are no longer his preferred destination, though.

The arrival of LeBron James in Los Angeles has changed things, according to the latest reports. Leonard was reportedly not "enamored" with the idea of being on a LeBron James-led team.

ESPN Spurs reporter Michael C. Wright has the latest on what Leonard wants. He reportedly now wants to be on the Clippers.

"Things have changed, but the Lakers are not Kawhi's preferred destination anymore. He wants to go to the Clippers. He doesn't want to go and be second fiddle to LeBron. That's what I was told, I was told by somebody that would know," Wright said.

Wright went into full detail on the situation surrounding Kawhi Leonard on the Back To Back podcast.

His full answer can be heard below:

The Clippers, unfortunately, probably don't have enough to make a trade with the Spurs right now. They're reportedly asking the Lakers for Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma, Josh Hart and multiple draft picks. The Clippers don't have anything close to that.

Leonard is set to be a free agent next summer, though. The Clippers will be able to create enough cap space to sign him.

The Lakers, meanwhile, could target Jimmy Butler or Klay Thompson in 2019 free agency. A trade for Damian Lillard has also been floated as a possibility.

Stay tuned.
