Free agent superstar Manny Machado is likely to be one of the highest paid players in baseball regardless of where he signs this offseason. But it is beginning to look like Machado might be willing to leave some money on the negotiating table if it means signing for his preferred team.

According to The Athletic, Machado has been telling people close to him that he prefers to play for the New York Yankees, and will sign for the Bronx Bombers if "the money is close."

Machado met with the Yankees this past week, but is reportedly listening to offers from the Chicago White Sox and Philadelphia Phillies as well.

The 26-year-old Machado is coming off a World Series appearance with the Los Angeles Dodgers after batting .297 in the regular season while recording 188 hits, 37 home runs, 84 runs, and 107 RBIs.

While the Yankees already have highly-touted players at both of Machado's positions - Miguel Andujar at third base and Didi Gregorious at shortstop - there is little doubt that Machado would be an upgrade at the plate.

Machado is a four-time All-Star in seven seasons between the Baltimore Orioles and the Dodgers.
