The 2018 college basketball coaching carousel is going to be a really fascinating one. A couple of big names could be on the move (by choice or by force).
Yahoo! Sports reporter Pete Thamel covered everything that's gone down and is expected to go down in a recent column.
One big name is included: Tom Izzo.
Will this finally be the year that the Michigan State head coach leaves East Lansing, Mich. for the NBA? Maybe.
From his report:
The coaching situations at Michigan State and Connecticut don’t have the specter of federal investigations hanging over them. They do have thorny situations that could result in non-traditional timing of coaching departures. Could this finally be the year Tom Izzo goes to the NBA? The tumult on campus at Michigan State could nudge him there, as Izzo has enjoyed the attention that comes with NBA flirtations over the years but has never been able to pull the trigger on leaving MSU.
Izzo addressed his future at Michigan State earlier this season. He said he's not going anywhere.
"I'm not going anywhere, in my mind." Izzo said. "I'm definitely not retiring."
Izzo has been Michigan State's head coach since 1995. The Spartans are likely going to be a top three seed in the NCAA Tournament.
