Louisville's head coaching search has begun. There's one name clearly atop the list.

Xavier head coach Chris Mack is target 1A for the Cardinals. Things are starting to move with that process, too.

According to multiple reports, Mack is set to meet with Louisville this weekend about the head coaching vacancy. It will be the first meeting between the two sides.

The Courier-Journal first reported the news.

Officials from the University of Louisville are scheduled to meet with Xavier coach Chris Mack for the first time this weekend to discuss the school's opening for a head men's basketball coach, a source with knowledge of the interview process told Courier Journal.

Mack has long been considered the top coach on Louisville's list, and the scheduled meeting is the first sign of the coaching search process taking shape.

ESPN college basketball insider Jeff Goodman has confirmed the report.

Mack would be a tremendous hire for Louisville. He's been one of the country's best coaches during his time at Xavier.

Stay tuned.
