Rick Pitino was reportedly contacted by a college basketball program about a head coaching vacancy. That's what the Detroit News reported, anyway.
Tony Paul of the Detroit News reported on Monday that Detroit Mercy had expressed interest in the former Louisville head coach. The school has a head coaching vacancy.
"I am hearing -- seriously -- that Detroit Mercy has reached out to Rick Pitino. This coaching search is all over the map, and nobody knows where it's going," he tweeted.
The school has publicly responded to the report. They say it is not true.
"As erroneously reported by The Detroit News, University of Detroit Mercy has NOT contacted Rick Pitino about the University’s men’s head basketball position. The University will be reviewing candidates in the near future," Detroit Mercy tweeted.
Pitino, 65, was fired by Louisville in late 2017. He is reportedly still interested in coaching, though, and has been linked to a couple of different schools. It seems unlikely that he'll land one, though.
