After putting together one of the best recruiting classes in the nation, expectations are high for the UCLA Bruins. Unfortunately, head coach Steve Alford will have to manage his young roster without Shareef O'Neal.
O'Neal isn't just the son of NBA Legend Shaquille O'Neal, he's turned himself into an intriguing prospect. In fact, 247Sports ranked him as the No. 41 recruit in all of the country.
While O'Neal could have himself an amazing career, his freshman season will be put on hold. During a routine checkup with the university, UCLA's medical staff found a medical issue with his heart.
TMZ Sports spoke with O'Neal and released the news about him missing the entire season because of upcoming heart surgery.
This injury is bigger than basketball, as O'Neal's life could have been in serious danger. Nonetheless, the star freshman will attend class during his rehab, despite missing time on the court.
As for the talented recruit's wellbeing, O'Neal took his thoughts to Twitter in a very heartfelt post.
It's safe to say the entire basketball community is wishing a speedy recovery for O'Neal.
