The star snowboarder appears to be on a mission.
Shaun White hasn’t won the gold medal for the snowboarding halftime competition at the Winter Olympics yet this year. After last night, though, it’d be a shocker if he didn’t.
The United States snowboarding star put on a ridiculous show in the qualifiers. He finished with a score close to a perfect 100.
White, a two-time Olympic gold medalist in the event, led the way in the qualifying field. He finished with a score of 98.5.
The American will have some stiff competition in the final. Australia’s Scotty James and Japan’s Ayumu Hirano are his biggest threats for gold.
White, though, is obviously the favorite. He tallied back-to-back 1260s during his run that showcased his ridiculous skill.
“I was stoked to put that (first) run down,” White told reporters. “That took the pressure and the edge off and then I started seeing everyone putting these great runs in and I figured I would step it up. They motivated me to send it on that last one.”
