Mikal Bridges' mom works for the Philadelphia 76ers, and he played college ball at Villanova. When Philly picked him in the NBA Draft tonight, it seemed too good to be true.
It was. Bridges has been traded, according to multiple reports.
The Sixers have shipped Bridges, who was picked 10th overall, to the Phoenix Suns. In exchange, they will get the No. 16 pick, Texas Tech guard Zhaire Smith.
The Sixers will also get a first-round pick in 2021.
This trade seems to be a surprise, considering Bridges is considered one of the most "NBA-ready" prospects in this draft. As a "three-and-D" player, he was expected to be able to contribute right away.
Smith's stock rose considerably during the NCAA Tournament and during the draft process. He's only 19, but is an elite athlete with tremendous defensive ability/upside. Outside shooting remains a question mark.
We'll see soon enough who won this deal.
