The Mustangs have hired the father of the elite recruit.
SMU has reportedly hired the father of one of the top recruits in the 2019 class.
The Scout.com site, Pony Stampede, reports that the Mustangs have hired Tyrone Maxey, who's the father of five-star guard Tyrese Maxey.
The senior Maxey will serve as the director of recruiting for SMU's program.
The NCAA has rules in place to prevent a program from hiring the relative of a recruit to a non-coaching position, but it's only disallowed during the two years prior to a recruit's enrollment. So, this won't affect the 2019 recruit's ability to sign with SMU.
Tyrese congratulated his dad on Twitter.
The 6-foot-3, 185-pound prospect out of Garland, Texas is ranked the No. 2 SG in the class by 247Sports' Composite Rankings.
SMU is believed to be the favorite to land him according to 247Sports' Crystal Ball. Florida State and Michigan State are other top programs currently involved.
