Son Of Former NBA Head Coach Rick Adelman Dies In Tragic Accident

The son of the former NBA coach died in a tragic accident.

The son of a veteran NBA head coach died in a tragic car accident late last week. He was only 44.

TMZ Sports has confirmed that Rick Adelman's son, R.J., died in a car accident in Houston on Feb. 2. R.J. was a former NBA assistant coach himself.

The accident reportedly happened when R.J. was crossing the street. He reportedly wasn't using a crosswalk.

From TMZ Sports:

Officials confirm 44-year-old R.J. Adelman was walking around downtown Houston around noon on Feb. 2 when he was hit by an 80-year-old woman driving a Chrysler Town & Country minivan.

According to the police report, Adelman was not using a crosswalk at the time of the accident.

Adelman was transported to the hospital in serious condition and was pronounced dead 4 hours later. According to the Harris County medical examiner, Adelman died as a result of blunt force injuries.

The driver was questioned by police and released without charges. However, we're told the accident is still under investigation.

R.J., who played college basketball at Willamette University, worked for the Sonics, Kings, Rockets and Timberwolves. His father, Rick, was an NBA head coach for more than two decades. He last led Minnesota from 2011-14.
