College football season is weeks away from starting. As the days dwindle down to opening weekend, more preseason top 25 polls will be unveiled.

The Coaches Poll' was released last week. The AP is set to drop its final preseason top 25 on August 20, and today, Sports Illustrated dropped its latest rankings.

Not surprisingly, Clemson and Alabama are the top two teams on the list. But what is interesting is that SI is putting the Tigers No. 1 ahead of the defending national champions.

You can see the rest of the top 10 below:

  1. Clemson
  2. Alabama
  3. Wisconsin
  4. Washington
  5. Oklahoma
  6. Georgia
  7. Penn State
  8. Auburn
  9. Ohio State
  10. West Virginia

Looking at this list, the two things that stand out the most--besides Clemson topping Alabama--are the rankings for Ohio State and West Virginia. Sports Illustrated is very high on the Mountaineers, who are regarded as a consensus top-25 team but haven't been in the top 10 in many other preseason ratings.

Also, it is fair to wonder if Ohio State was dropped a few slots due to the ongoing situation involving Urban Meyer. Wisconsin and Penn State are both top-10 teams, but the Buckeyes being ranked behind both in the preseason is noteworthy.
