Texas Tech fired head coach Kliff Kingsbury on Sunday and the Red Raiders are reportedly moving quickly with their coaching search.

Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables is reportedly a top candidate for the position and Texas Tech has reportedly already reached out to him.

Kirk Bohls is reporting that Texas Tech "has talked" with Venables about the opening.

"Texas Tech source says AD Kirby Hocutt 'has talked' with Clemson DC Brent Venables about the Red Raiders HC vacancy and has reached out to others," he reports.

Venables, 47, has been Clemson's defensive coordinator since 2012. He's thought of as one of the top assistant coaches in the country and has been linked to several head coaching positions over the years.

The defensive coordinator will surely leave Clemson at some point, but will it be for Texas Tech?

Venables is a Kansas native and coached in the Big 12 before leaving for Clemson, so he does have some major familiarity with the league.
