The Blake Bortles Era In Jacksonville Might Be Coming To An End

The quarterback had a pretty dreadful performance Thursday night.

Much of the Blake Bortles era in Jacksonville can be summed up by the following play.

The Jaguars' quarterback has some time in the pocket, his wide receiver gets open between a couple of defenders, a big play appears to be on the way...and the throw is off.

Bortles was trending nationally on Twitter Thursday night thanks to his performance. The former first-round pick completed eight of 13 passes for 65 yards in the loss to Tampa Bay. The stats as they are don't look that bad, but the body language and overall demeanor of Jacksonville's offense just looked defeated. Much - if not all - of that can be placed on Bortles' struggles. This came days after Jaguars' star wide receiver Allen Robinson yelled at the QB in practice for an errant throw.

Jacksonville now has a decision to make. ESPN's Jon Gruden called for backup Chad Henne to get some first-team reps. Much of the Jaguars' fan base feels the same.

The former No. 3 overall pick has $19 million in injury-guaranteed salary due for 2018, so there are some calling for the franchise to just part ways with him now.

Jacksonville has two more preseason games before opening the season on Sept. 10 at Houston.
