There was a time brands used social media to call attention to their products and upcoming deals. We no longer live in that time.

In 2018, brands such as Wendy's have turned to insulting would-be consumers, albeit satirically. That's exactly what Walmart did earlier today when it called out the Tennessee Volunteers.

How'd we get here? Well it all started by a Volunteers fan tweeting about new Florida head coach Dan Mullen's shoes. Houston Kress, of Fox Sports Knoxville, took a shot at rival Florida by saying that only the school's colors could make an iconic shoe look like it came from a bin at Walmart.

Here's that tweet.

The official Walmart Twitter account decided to clap back in epic fashion. Someone running the Walmart account decided Volunteers fans needed to be reminded of last year's epic loss to Florida in the final seconds.

We truly live in a beautiful and terrifying time.
