We had maybe the wildest finish of the 2017-18 men's college basketball season tonight. The ending was a bit controversial, too.
North Carolina hosted Miami in Chapel Hill this evening. It was Senior Night.
The Tar Heels didn't play very well, but they ended up tying the game with a couple of seconds left on a wild Joel Berry 3. Overtime appeared imminent.
The Hurricanes had other plans, though. They drilled a buzzer-beating 3 from just inside halfcourt.
Here's video of the finish:
There doesn't appear to be anything controversial there, right? Just a really exciting finish.
However, slow the video down a bit, and you see that the refs might have missed a big call. The Miami player who hit the shot, Ja'Quan Newton, appeared to take three steps as he gathered.
Others seem to agree.
It wasn't blatant. And it's obviously never going to get called in a hectic situation like that. It's almost impossible to see it in real time.
But, North Carolina can probably be a little salty in defeat. Maybe the Tar Heels can take it out on Duke this weekend...
