The Sandlot Cast: Where Are They Now?

The Sandlot, the beloved 1993 movie about a kids' baseball team in the early 1960s, has become a cult-favorite sports film, featuring a cast of classic characters. The film's actors have gone in a wide range of directions since.

The cast had a 20-year reunion back in 2013, albeit, without one major star.

Here's what your favorite sandlot players, and one lifeguard, are up to, 24 years after the film's release.

Tom Guiry - Scotty Smalls

The Sandlot was Guiry's first time hitting the silver screen, but it is not his only notable movie. The following year, he was in Lassie, and reemerged in the early 2000s, in the war movie Black Hawk Down (2001) and 2003 Best Picture nominee Mystic River. In 2007, Guiry was a regular on the 2007 NBC crime drama The Black Donnellys. Most recently, Guiry appeared in a 2017 episode of NBC's Chicago Justice. In 2013, Guiry missed the 20 year reunion of Sandlot after being arrested for headbutting a police officer who told him he was too drunk to board the flight. His mugshot from the incident went viral.

Guiry has appeared in a number of things since, so hopefully he's in decent shape when the movie turns 25 next year.

Mike Vitar - Benny "The Jet" Rodriguez

"The Jet" may have been the baseball star of the movie, but Mike Vitar's movie career didn't last too much longer, although The Sandlot wasn't his last hit sports movie. He starred as Luis Mendoza in D2: The Mighty Ducks and D3: The Mighty Ducks in 1994 and 1996. His final role came in 1997, in an episode of Chicago Hope on CBS.

Today, Vitar works as a firefighter in Los Angeles, and is married with three children, but found himself back in the news for an unfortunate reason earlier this year. Vitar plead no contest after a 2015 assault charge, which also landed him a six-month unpaid suspension from his job. From TMZ:

Vitar will have to complete 90 days of community service and take weekly anger management classes for a year. He also has to pay a $2,000 fine and TBD amount of restitution to the victim ... which will be determined in a hearing next month. The victim was beaten so badly his pulse stopped and the same firefighters who attacked him had to revive him.

TMZ has pictures of the victim of the assault as well, which are pretty rough.

Patrick Renna - Hamilton "Ham" Porter

The actor who played Sandlot's boisterous catcher is one of the more active actors in the cast. Renna appeared in episodes of Boy Meets WorldHome Improvement, ER,and The X-Files in the 90s,and more recently, was a recurring character in Boston Legal. Renna and his wife Jasmin had their first child in April.

Renna's most recent credit is in the 2016 Comedy-Horror movie Fear Inc., which also stars Lucas Neff, Abigail Breslin, and others.

Chauncey Leopardi - Michael "Squints" Palledorous

Leopardi was one of the more experienced actors in the crew, and continues to do regular television roles. Like a number of others, he appeared on Boy Meets World, and was in the 1995 movie Casper, and episodes of The Larry Sanders Show7th Heaven, and Walker, Texas Ranger, in the late 90s.

In the early 2000s, Leopardi was a regular on Freaks and Geeks and Gilmore Girls, but has slowed down as an actor in the last few years. His last role came in the 2013 movie Coldwater. As you can see above, his Twitter handle is @_squintz, which is wonderful, and he regularly engages with Sandlot fans on social media.

Marty York - Alan "Yeah-Yeah" McClennan

Yeah-Yeah has had a very limited acting career since The Sandlot, appearing in a few episodes of Boy Meets World in 1993, and doing voice work on Nickelodeon's Hey Arnold! in 1997, as well as a few other shows. Most recently, York appeared in a 2015 episode of The Eric Andre Show.

Unfortunately, like some of his costars, York has been in the news for legal trouble more recently than he has for his acting.

In 2009, York was arrested for domestic abuse after an incident with his girlfriend. From TMZ:

Sources tell TMZ Marty York -- who played the smart mouthed sidekick "Yeah-Yeah" in the flick 16 years ago -- was driving with his girlfriend in Los Angeles when they got in a heated argument. York says his GF struck him with her high heel shoe and he retaliated by punching her in the eye, causing a cut.

York says they drove home, where the argument continued. A neighbor saw the cut on the woman's eye and called the cops.

L.A. County Sheriff's deputies arrived just after 2:00 AM. They observed physical injuries to the woman and arrested York for felony corporal injury.

After the incident, York asked fans for donations to cover his legal expenses. Three years later, York was so hungover at a hotel in Las Vegas, that a roomkeeper thought he was dead. Once again, from TMZ:

Sources tell TMZ, it all went down the morning after St. Paddy's Day -- a housekeeper at the Wyndham Hotel entered a hotel room occupied by 31-year-old Marty York (aka Yeah-Yeah from the movie) and he appeared unconscious.

When the housekeeper tried to wake him, she couldn't. So, she called security, thinking York was dead.

The hotel called 911 and in-house medical staff rushed to the room -- only to find York was actually just hungover ... sleeping off a night off heavy drinking.

York shouldn't be confused with the Toronto-based sports writer of the same name, though there are some Blue Jays fans who are probably pretty familiar with both.

Brandon Adams - Kenny DeNunez

Adams may have been the most experienced actor in the bunch by the time The Sandlot was released in 1993. He had already played multiple rolls in Michael Jackson's Moonwalker in 1988, was a regular on A Different World from 1989-1991, and starred in the first two Mighty Ducks movies. After Sandlot, Adams appeared in episodes of The Fresh Prince of Bel-AirBoy Meets WorldSister Sister, and Moesha.

Recently, Adams has focused on voice acting, appearing in hit video games like Kingdom Hears II, and multiple editions of the Grand Theft Auto franchise. He has also tried his hand at rapping, producing a mixtape in 2009 under the name B. Lee, according to a 2009 profile in The Chicago Defender.

Grant Gelt - Bertram Grover Weeks

Gelt appeared in a number of television shows before The Sandlot, and made the requisite Boy Meets World appearance after the movie, but his last credit as an actor was in 1999 in the TV movie The '60s.

Gelt may be out of acting, but he is still very involved in the entertainment industry. He works as a music and tour manager for Velvet Hammer, with bands like System of the Down, Deftones, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club.

Shane Obedzinski - Tommy "Repeat" Timmons

Obedzinski has probably done the least in the acting world since Sandlot, with just two credits since the movie. One was 1993's Hidden Fears. Before The Sandlot, Obedzinski starred alongside Macauley Culkin in the 1991 movie My Girl.

During the news cycle for the 20th reunion, Obedzinski was profiled by the Tampa Bay Times as a successful restaurateur, and owner of New York Times Square Pizza in Brandon, Florida. In that piece, he admitted that he still had the acting bug.

Over the years, Obedzinksi has begun to open up more about his role in the hit '90s films. He still gets fan mail and requests for autographs. "He's very down to earth about it," Jonathan said. "Kids come in with the DVD now, before it was VHS, and he signs them. He'll sit and talk with every one of them." In addition to expanding the pizzeria, Obedzinski said he'd also be interested in taking on a few new acting roles. If he had his pick of scripts, he would likely pick something in the fantasy or science-fiction genres.

Four years later, he landed just his second credit since the hit film, in the 2017 sci-fi short Space Gila from the Deep.

Victor DiMattia - Timmy Timmons

DiMattia, the other Timmons brother in The Sandlot, was a pretty active child actor before the movie was released. He appeared in episodes of Married With Children, Days of Our Lives, Family Ties, Superman, and It's Garry Shandling's Show, and starred as the titular character in the 1987 Dennis the Menace TV movie.

DiMattia stopped acting in 1995, after six years on A Peaceable Kingdom, but is set to make his return this year, with the upcoming film Storefront, which has been completed, according to IMDB. He has also worked on various projects on the sound side, and has directed a few shorts.

Marley Shelton - Wendy Peffercorn

Shelton has the most extensive Hollywood career since The Sandlot, with 68 acting credits to her name. She's appeared in some big blockbusters, including Nixon, Pleasantville, Never Been Kissed, Sin City, the Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez double feature Grindhouse, which features the films Planet Terror and Death Proof. She was a regular on the 2008-2009 TV show Eleventh Hour, appeared on an episode of AMC's critical hit Mad Men, and was a regular on 2014's The Lottery.

Next year, Shelton is set to appear in Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's upcoming action flick Rampage, based on the video game franchise of the same name.
