The Thunder Are Reportedly Trying To Pair Blake Griffin With Russell Westbrook

Both Russell Westbrook and Blake Griffin are set to be free agents this summer.

The Thunder are reportedly interested in pairing the two superstars in Oklahoma City.

Westbrook needs a new running mate now that Kevin Durant is off to Golden State, and if OKC can get the Los Angeles Clippers' star forward to join him, perhaps he'll be interested in staying with the franchise for the long-term.

From Yahoo! Sports' The Vertical:

For Westbrook, the most likely scenario for a renegotiation would be to use the Thunder’s cap space to guarantee he will stay under contract with the Thunder through the 2017-18 season. This would give Oklahoma City the chance to recruit one of its top targets – 2017 free agent and Oklahoma native Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers – to partner with Westbrook, league sources said.

Griffin, 27, was born in Oklahoma City and played collegiately at Oklahoma. So, the idea of him signing with the Thunder as a free agent isn't that far-fetched. He'd likely need Westbrook to re-sign with the franchise before he commits, though.
