Louisville's men's basketball head coaching gig is officially open.

The Cardinals have informed interim head coach David Padgett that they'll be moving in a new direction. 247Sports first reported the news.

“They are going in a different direction,” Padgett, 33, told 247Sports. “They appreciated my efforts and everything I did with this team and to make it a good situation, obviously they wished me nothing but the best and I feel the same about the university.”

Where does Louisville go from here?

The Cardinals might not have to go too far to find their next head coach.

Xavier head coach Chris Mack is the clear favorite for the job, according to many.

"Many expect" Louisville to end up plucking Mack from the Musketeers' program.

ESPN's Jeff Goodman says he's the "frontrunner."

Mack would be a fantastic hire for the Cardinals. The 48-year-old head coach is 212-96 at Xavier.

He's led the program to 8 NCAA Tournaments in 9 seasons.

Stay tuned.
