One of the top JUCO quarterback recruits in the 2019 class has announced his college commitment.
Stetson Bennett, who previously played for Georgia, is returning to the Bulldogs on a scholarship.
UGA announced Bennett's decision this evening.
Georgia announced the decision with a tweet, though later deleted it:
247Sports had more on Bennett and his return:
Bennett, originally from Blackshear, Ga., attended Georgia as a preferred walk-on in 2017 and served as the team's scout-team quarterback. When he decided that he wanted more playing time and a scholarship, he elected to go the junior college route, transferring to Jones County Community College (Ellisville, Miss.) With the Bulldogs potentially losing Justin Fields to a transfer, it appears that they reached out to the former Pierce County standout to get him back in the fold.
His work on the Bulldog scout team as a freshman drew rave reviews both from defensive coaches who had to plan against him and players who had to try and defend him.
"Stetson Bennett's a beast, man," Former UGA defensive coordinator Mel Tucker said when he met with prior to the Rose Bowl. "Stetson Bennett puts a lot of pressure on our defense because he is extremely quick, he's fast and he can throw. He can throw in the pocket and he can throw on the run and he's very, very competitive. He does a great job of getting us a look and it challenges our players so I'm glad we have him."
Georgia's quarterback depth had some questions heading into 2019 with the expected transfer of five-star freshman Justin Fields.
The Bulldogs have added some nice depth today, though. Georgia flipped four-star QB Dwan Mathis from Ohio State's 2019 class and is adding Bennett.
Stay tuned for an official announcement.
