Big transfer news in the college basketball world today. One of the top scoring guards in the country has asked for his release.

Macio Teague, a sophomore guard at UNC Asheville, has decided to transfer out of the program. He will receive interest from several major program.

The 6-foot-3 guard was one of the top scorers in the country. He was the best player on UNC Asheville's team this past season.

Teague, an Ohio native, averaged 16.7 points in 2017-18. He shot 44 percent from the 3-point line over the past two seasons. He shot 88 percent from the free-throw line.

ESPN college basketball insider Jeff Goodman calls this "BIG" transfer news.

UNC Asheville had a coaching change this offseason. It's unclear if that's what lead to Teague asking for his release. It's possible he just wants to play at a bigger program after being so successful.

The star guard is an Ohio native. Perhaps some of his home state's programs will express interest.

Stay tuned. Teague will likely receive interest from a bunch of big schools.
