United States Fails To Qualify For 2018 World Cup
Well, this is embarrassing.
The United States Men's National Team traveled to Trinidad and Tobago, and needed a good result to keep itself alive for the 2018 World Cup.
It lost, 2-1.
The USMNT fell down 2-0 in the first half, and failed to claw its way back in the second. The disastrous result began in the 17th minute, when US defender Omar Gonzalez surrendered an own-goal. Trinidad and Tobago followed that up with a huge strike in the 35th minute by Alvin Jones.
19-year old American phenom Christian Pulisic did his best to pull the Americans back, with a goal in the 46th minute.
However, it would not be enough.
Elsewhere, Panama scored a late goal, sending it past the USMNT in the standings, and giving it a World Cup berth. The USMNT 2-1 loss, coupled with wins by Panama and Honduras, meant elimination for the Americans.

2018 will be the first World Cup that the United States has failed to qualify for since 1986.
