Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Jordan Zimmerman had a very scary moment on the mound against the Cleveland Indians this afternoon. Zimmermann was drilled in the face by a line drive off the bat of Jason Kipnis.
Zimmermann was down on the mound for a while after getting hit in the head by the baseball. Kipnis was emotionally distraught on first base.
Thankfully, Zimmermann was able to walk off the field under his own power. He did have to leave the game, though.
Zimmermann was replaced on the mound by Daniel Norris.
Zimmerman did not appear to be bleeding from the hit. The fact that he was able to walk off the field under his own power is encouraging.
Video of the scary moment has been released. It is tough to watch.
Video: Jordan Zimmerman drilled by line drive
Our thoughts are with Zimmermann and the Tigers. Hopefully this was just a scary moment that did not result in anything serious. Zimmermann is certainly a tough dude after being able to walk off the field under his own power after getting drilled by a line drive.
