The Washington Nationals Are Reportedly Considering Some Major Trades

A view of the Nationals stands at a game.

The Washington Nationals are still somewhat in the NL East Divisional race, as they trail the Philadelphia Phillies by seven games. At this point, though, a run to the playoffs would be surprising.

It's been a disappointing, injury-riddled season for the reigning NL East champs who entered the 2018 season with World Series hopes.

The Nationals are in a tricky place, having to decide whether they're going to make some moves to push for a postseason run, or to sell off some of their valuable pieces.

Washington GM Mike Rizzo is reportedly ready to sell some pieces if it comes to that.

MLB insider Jeff Passan reports that the Nationals have begun to contact teams about some players they would be willing to move.

"The Washington Nationals have started discussions with teams to gauge interest if they decide to sell. Of particular interest are Kelvin Herrera, Shawn Kelley and Ryan Madson, three free-agent-to-be relievers. Nats are telling teams they’ll know by end of weekend," he reports.

The Nationals have some winnable series coming up, as they're in Miami this weekend and have series coming up against the Reds and the Mets. It's possible that Washington could rack up some wins and make a run at the division.
