On Thursday night, the nation’s best college football players gathered for an awards show of epic proportions. The Oscars of the college football world, ESPN hosted this year’s college football awards show with notable players can coaches in attendance.
One of the most-anticipated awards year-in and year-out is the Doak Walker award. Given to the nation’s best running back, the Doak Walker award is seen as one of the most-prestigious awards in the game.
In the least-surprising race on the show, Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor took home the award as the nation’s best running back this year.

Taylor won the award over Memphis running back Darrell Henderson and Clemson star Travis Etienne. The sophomore tailback leads the nation in rushing yards with 1,989 and averages over seven yards per carry.
Taylor topped his 1,977 yards he racked up during the 2017 season when he was a freshman. He also increased his yards per carry from 6.6 to 7.1 and scored two more touchdowns on the ground.
