One of the top freshman defensive linemen in college football has opted to transfer.

West Virginia rising sophomore defensive lineman Lamonte McDougle reportedly informed the coaching staff this morning that he's going to pursue other options. He's decided to transfer.

McDougle was a freshman All-American during the 2017 season. He played in all 13 games for the Mountaineers.

His departure is a crushing blow for a defensive line that was already very thin.

Mitch Vingle first broke the news.

Rumors had been swirling regarding McDougle for a while. Now, they are official.

The star defensive lineman will likely be heavily pursued on the transfer market. He has three years of eligibility remaining.

The 6-foot-1, 295-pound defensive lineman is a Florida native. It's unclear which schools he's going to consider on the transfer market.
