Few NFL players in history have had worse days than the one Cleveland Browns kicker Zane Gonzalez just had.
Gonzalez, who very well might be cut after this afternoon's loss to the New Orleans Saints, is basically directly responsible for the defeat.
The Browns kicker missed two field goals and two extra-points in the last-minute loss to New Orleans. His final two misses of the game were on the go-ahead extra-point attempt and the game-tying field goal attempt.
Gonzalez first missed an extra point with about a minute to play after a go-ahead touchdown pass from Tyrod Taylor. The extra point would've given the Browns the lead with less than a minute to go. The Browns, after all, haven't won a game in more than a year.
The Saints got the ball back with the game tied and quickly marched down the field for a go-ahead field goal. The Browns got the ball back, though, and also made their way down the field.
Cleveland got the ball back in field goal range and Gonzalez attempted another kick to tie the game as time was close to expiring. Of course, it missed.
Gonzalez was absolutely devastated on the sideline. His teammates were probably furious.
Photos of Gonzalez reacting to the missed kick are heartbreaking.
I would say "there's always next week," but that probably won't be the case for Gonzalez. It seems likely that the Browns will cut him.
