Michigan native Jake Moody could be responsible for gutting the Detroit Lions' Super Bowl dreams.

The San Francisco 49ers kicker will compete against his hometown team in the NFC Championship Game. It puts his parents in a bind.

Chad and Lisa Moody are both avid Lions fans. They must choose between their favorite team and their son this Sunday.

It's an easy call for his mother, a Michigan State alum who watched Moody face the Spartans while playing for the Michigan Wolverines.

"The second a team plays against my son, I’m going to root for my son, of course," Lisa told Click on Detroit. "I had to do the same thing with Michigan vs. Michigan State, and I did OK with that."

His father, who called himself "a Lions fan since birth," claimed he predicted this scenario before the season began. He reached the same conclusion as Lisa.

"It’s tough, but we’re going to root for the 49ers," Chad said. "Our son’s on the team, so of course, we’ll root for our son’s team."

Lisa, a teacher, couldn't persuade her students to back the 49ers. At least she convinced them not to root against Jake.

The 49ers drafted Jake Moody with the No. 99 pick to replace Robbie Gould, who retired after spending the final six of his 18 seasons in Francisco. The rookie converted 21 of 25 field goals and 60 of 61 extra points during the regular season.

While he had a 48-yard try blocked near the end of the first half, Moody redeemed himself by starting the fourth quarter of last Sunday's NFC Divisional Round game with a successful 52-yard kick. The 49ers capped off a 24-21 comeback win over the Green Bay Packers.

Few people will be more nervous than Chad and Lisa Moody if Jake attempts a game-altering kick during the NFC Championship Game. Yet Chad confirmed that he'll still cheer for the Lions in the Super Bowl if they beat the 49ers.
