Longtime NFL running back Adrian Peterson is facing extensive financial trouble, according to a new report and a statement from his lawyer.
Earlier today, The Athletic reported that Peterson is being sued by a Pennsylvania lender for allegedly defaulting on a $5.2 million loan. He has previously faced legal issues for owing money in Minnesota and Maryland.
According to one of Peterson’s lawyers, the 34-year-old star “trusted the wrong people.”
“The truth behind Adrian Peterson’s current financial situation is more than is being reported at this time,” Peterson’s attorney Chase Carlson said in a statement. “Because of ongoing legal matters, I am unable to go into detail, but I will say this is yet another situation of an athlete trusting the wrong people and being taken advantage of by those he trusted. Adrian and his family look forward to sharing further details when appropriate.”

According to OverTheCap.com, Peterson has accrued over $100 million in career earnings. That’s an astounding figure, but it is clear he’s had problems managing that money.
It sounds like Peterson could be the latest in a long line of athletes who made bad investments or entrusted their money to the wrong people.
It will be interesting to see if more details on this situation emerge.
