Jim Kelly cancer recovery update: the Hall of Fame quarterback is making big strides in his recovery. Kelly underwent jaw surgery to deal with the reemergence of his oral cancer. The quarterback announced that the cancer had come back on March 1. He had successful surgery in late March.
Back on March 29, Kelly's doctor announced that he had removed the cancer from Kelly's jaw and the lymph nodes in his neck. He later needed reconstructive surgery after the treatment. On Easter, of all days, he was able to get up and walk around again. Now, Jim Kelly is close to another big milestone in his recovery.

Kelly underwent a 12-hour surgery on March 28 at Mount Sinai Hospital In New York City to remove the oral cancer.
Dr. Mark Urken says Kelly is one of the toughest patients he has ever treated, and he is impressed with his recovery.
Hospital officials said Kelly will be released soon, but no exact date has been set.
One big factor in this latest Jim Kelly cancer recovery: he is able to eat again.
On Friday, his wife Jill Kelly posted a picture to Instagram of the Bills great drinking a chocolate shake. It's a solid step forward.
Jill Kelly also put out a statement about Jim's latest progress. Via the Democrat & Chronicle report:
“Jim’s health situation points to the need for people to be aware of the signs and symptoms of oral cancer and to get checked out immediately if something seems abnormal. We are so thankful that Jim continues to make progress every day. His recovery will take time and patience. We all look forward to being out of the hospital soon. Please keep us in your prayers and thank you for such incredible support," said Jim Kelly's wife, Jill Kelly, in a released statement.
Jim Kelly was first diagnosed in 2013. The cancer returned in 2014.
In 2016, he was declared cancer free. Unfortunately, the disease returned this year, but he appears to be on the road back once again.
Jim Kelly is a five-time Pro Bowl quarterback, earning the honor in 1987, 1988, and 1990-92. He led the NFL in touchdowns in 1991. The Bills went to, and lost, four straight Super Bowls from 1991-94. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2002. He still lives in Western New York.
