Baker Mayfield Reportedly Had Private Workout With This Team Today

Baker Mayfield continues to be one of the most intriguing NFL Draft prospects. The Miami Dolphins, who he has been connected to for a while, reportedly worked him out today.

Mayfield has reportedly been in contention to be one of the first players off the board. He is one of the four main quarterback prospects that should go early in the first round of the upcoming draft.

Mayfield, Josh Allen, Sam Darnold, and Josh Rosen have all been jockeying for draft position. Darnold, the USC quarterback, had an impressive pro day today, and could be the clubhouse leader to go No. 1 overall to the Cleveland Browns.

Those Browns also have the No. 4 overall pick, while the New York Giants (No. 2), New York Jets (No. 3), and Denver Broncos (No. 5) are all among the teams that could take a quarterback. Mayfield could certainly go to one of those franchises.

If he falls, the Dolphins could be a strong option at No. 11. The team could look to move on from starter Ryan Tannehill, who remains under contract through 2020, but has struggled to stay on the field or elevate his play to the next level when he is healthy.

According to Adam Schefter, Baker Mayfield had a private workout with the Dolphins today.

Mayfield has previously lobbied to become a Dolphin. Back in January, he commented on a live stream by Dolphins receiver Kenny Stills, saying "get me to Miami."

This past season, the Dolphins brought Jay Cutler out of retirement as a stopgap after Ryan Tannehill tore his ACL in August. The team went 6-10 on the season.

At the NFL Scouting Combine, the Dolphins were one of 11 teams that interviewed Mayfield. That list also includes the Browns, Giants, Jets, and Broncos, and other teams farther down the draft, including the Arizona Cardinals, Los Angeles Chargers, Buffalo Bills, New Orleans Saints, and Jacksonville Jaguars.

During his 2017 Heisman Trophy-winning campaign at OU, Mayfield completed 70.5-percent of his passes for 11.5 yards an attempt, totaling 4,627 yards through the air. He passed for 43 touchdowns, and just six interceptions, and added 313 yards and six touchdowns from scrimmage.

The NFL Draft will take place from April 26-28. This year, the event will be at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
