Tua Tagovailoa was benched by Brian Flores late in the second half of Saturday's win over the Las Vegas Raiders, but the rookie quarterback was still in high spirits following the game.
Flores benched Tagovailoa in favor of veteran QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, who led the Dolphins on a crazy game-winning drive.
Fitzpatrick, who has twice replaced a benched Tagovailoa over the last month, completed an insane no-look pass to set up a game-winning field goal attempt.
Miami beat Las Vegas, 26-25, to remain in the playoff picture.
Tagovailoa shared an honest admission following the crazy win. He used one word to describe his quarterback teammate: "Fitzmagic."
There was certainly some magic on display from Fitzpatrick on Saturday night.
“They call him ‘Fitzmagic’ for a reason," Tagovailoa added.
Tagovailoa will remain the starter at quarterback for Miami moving forward, though. However, Flores added that going to Fitzpatrick late in games is always a possibility. The Dolphins' head coach compared it to MLB teams going to relief pitchers late in games.
“If we’ve got to go to our relief pitcher in the ninth, that’s what we’ll do,” Flores said. “Fitz (Ryan Fitzpatrick), he’s always ready to go. “
The Dolphins will look to finish their season at 11-5 next weekend.
