Earlier this offseason, the New England Patriots signed veteran cornerback Malcolm Butler to a two-year deal. On Monday, he spoke to reporters about his return to Foxboro.

Butler revealed that Patriots head coach Bill Belichick initiated his return to New England. That surprised a lot of people because Butler's first stint with the Patriots ended with him getting benched in Super Bowl LII.

"It came as a surprise," Butler said, via ESPN. "My agent told me Bill wanted to talk with me. I was happy. I started working out immediately, because I knew it could be a possibility that I could return."

As you'd expect, NFL fans are giving Belichick credit for making things right with Butler.

"Respect to Bill Belichick for recognizing what happened was wrong," an NFL fan tweeted.

"Bill made it right," another fan wrote.

Patriots fans are hoping this "redemption tour" for Butler goes well.

Butler is confident that he still has some good football left in him.

"I'm confident in myself, and I wouldn't be here if the Patriots didn't think the same. I'll defeat [those] odds, I'm telling you that now."

Butler, 32, will be asked to help a secondary that recently lost Pro Bowl cornerback J.C. Jackson.
