The Julian Edelman suspension for a violation of the league's substance policy has been upheld. According to multiple reports, the New England Patriots star had his appeal denied.

News of Edelman's suspension came down in early June. It comes after he missed the entire 2017 season with a torn ACL.

Edelman went down in the preseason last year. After acquiring Brandin Cooks from the Saints, the Patriots were able to fill in for him pretty well.

Cooks has since been moved off to the Los Angeles Rams. Edelman has long been a vital Patriot, and even more so now.

Adam Schefter is among those to break the Julian Edelman suspension news moments ago.

Edelman will be out for two home games and two road games to start the year. He will only miss one AFC East contest, though.

The Pats open with the Houston Texans in Foxborough. That is followed by an AFC title game rematch at the Jacksonville Jaguars.

On September 23, the Pats travel to face the Detroit Lions. Finally, Edelman will miss the team's home game vs. the Miami Dolphins.

Edelman is heading into his 10th NFL season, including the lost year in 2017. In 2016, he posted a career high with 1,106 receiving yards.

The Patriots will definitely need him back during the year. However, they should get through the first four games without too much of an issue.
