Earlier this week, rumors emerged suggesting star wide receiver Julian Edelman wouldn't be on the field for the New England Patriots this weekend.
Just a few days later, fans were surprised to learn that Edelman underwent a procedure on his knee. In just two days, Edelman went from a question mark on the roster for Sunday to out at least a few weeks.
It's a tough realization for Patriots fans, who are seeing a team off to its worst start in over 20 years. However, Edelman isn't feeling sorry for himself or the team.
In a post on Instagram, he sent a message to fans about his injury.
"Minor setback ⏩ major comeback #ToughTimesDontLastToughPeopleDo," Edelman said in the post.
Edelman reportedly underwent surgery recently for a knee issue that's been bothering him all season. According to NFL insider Michael Giardi, Edelman is dealing with bone-on-bone in his knee.
That's obviously not great for an NFL player who runs for a living. Hopefully Edelman makes a full recovery and can return to the field soon.
The Patriots desperately need him. Edelman and former first-round pick N'Keal Harry will both miss Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills.
That leaves the team with six undrafted wide receivers on the roster. Cam Newton struggled last week against the San Francisco 49ers with Edelman and Harry in the lineup.
We'll have to wait and see what he can do without them.
