NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported late Monday night that it wasn't strictly a "football" decision, as Bill Belichick said after the game. Rapoport reported that Butler had a bad week of practice after being sick.
The NFL Network reported also said Butler broke a team rule.Other reports said he missed curfew at some point during Super Bowl week.
Butler is a free agent after this season. It looks like his time in New England may be at an end.

Butler refutes the report that he missed a curfew. "During Super Bowl week I never attended any concert, missed curfew, or participated in any of the ridiculous activities being reported."
