Patriots Rumored To Be 'Team To Watch' For Free Agent QB

For the first time since the pre-Drew Bledsoe era, the New England Patriots are going to be in the market for a QB. Tom Brady is going to test the free agent market and could very well find his way back to Foxborough, but the Patriots may already have a potential replacement in mind if he signs elsewhere.

According to Sports Illustrated, the Patriots are considered a "team to watch" for New Orleans Saints quarterback Taysom Hill. Per the report, Saints head coach Sean Payton is expecting a team to try and sign Hill to a restricted free agent contract.

Hill was the one of the stand-out performers in the playoffs this past year. There's a strong argument to be made that he was the best player on the field in New Orleans' Wild Card loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

And with the Saints needing to choose some combination of Hill, Drew Brees, and Teddy Bridgewater, at least one of those three players is guaranteed to leave New Orleans this spring.

As for the Patriots, the only quarterbacks under contract for them right now are Cody Kessler and Jarrett Stidham. While talented, neither are necessarily considered potential franchise quarterbacks.

However, Hill would be a very interesting choice for the Patriots to add to their roster - especially as a starting quarterback. Hill is obviously not on Tom Brady's level as a passer - at least not when Brady was in his prime.

That said, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick has shown a fondness for versatile players. Some of his best players have converted to and from other positions throughout their careers.

Would Taysom Hill be a good fit for the New England Patriots?
