Is the Jarrett Stidham era in New England set to get underway in 2020? With Tom Brady in Tampa Bay, it certainly appears the Auburn alum is ready to take over for the Patriots.
Stidham had the beneficial role of backing up Brady last season, allowing the rookie to learn from one of the best to ever do it and gain more understanding of New England’s offense.
That year of study could prove extremely beneficial in the 2020 season. It’s unclear who will start for the Patriots, but Stidham appears poised to replace Brady as the starter.
New England star DB Devin McCourty is a fan of what Stidham brings to the table. Here’s what the star defensive back had to say about the Auburn alum:
“To me, the best thing for Stiddy was that he had to go against our defense every week,” McCourty said on his podcast Sunday, via ESPN.com. “He didn’t have it easy. I love his poise. I would be faking a blitz sometimes and we’d make eye contact and he’d just start smiling and laughing.”
Stidham certainly sounds like a Patriots QB.
But Bill Belichick is expected to take the quarterback competition into fall camp before making any decision. The Patriots signed veteran Brian Hoyer on Sunday and he’ll compete for the job.
A new era has begun in New England with Brady off to the Buccaneers.
