Report: New England Patriots DE Rob Ninkovich Expected To Retire

The 33-year-old has been in the NFL since 2006.

Ninkovich, who signed as a free agent with the Patriots in August 2009 and has been with the franchise ever since, is expected to announce his retirement today.

ESPN.com's Mike Reiss broke the news.

According to Reiss, the Patriots have called a press conference for 12:15 p.m. ET but have not specified it was for Ninkovich's retirement.

Ninkovich was drafted by the New Orleans Saints in the fifth round out of Purdue in 2006 and had brief stints with the Saints and Miami Dolphins before joining the Patriots.

His career flourished in New England, and he finished his NFL career with 460 tackles, 46 sacks, 23 passes defensed, 14 fumble recoveries, 10 forced fumbles, five interceptions and two defensive touchdowns.

Ninkovich was also part of a pair of Super Bowl-winning teams with the Patriots.
