News that the Los Angeles Chargers will let go of Philip Rivers this offseason has led to plenty of reactions from around the NFL. But few are more interesting than the one that New England Patriots QB Tom Brady had.
Taking to Instagram after the announcement, Brady visibly Liked an NFL post revealing the Chargers made the move. Naturally, there has been an immediate rush to interpret Brady’s actions and how it might relate to his NFL future.
Considering that his own future with the Patriots is very much in question, there are a dozen different ways to translate what he did.
It’s worth noting that Los Angeles has been named as a potential destination for Brady even before the Rivers announcement came down.

Rivers and Brady have squared off seven times, three of which came in the playoffs. The Patriots QB got the better of Rivers on six of those occasions, and all three of their postseason battles.
Their most recent meeting came in the 2018 NFL playoffs. Rivers threw for three touchdowns in a 41-28 losing effort at Gillette Stadium.
It would certainly be something if Brady ultimately finds himself replacing Rivers. It’d be especially fun to see Brady squaring off with Patrick Mahomes twice a year.
Was there any hidden meaning behind Brady liking the Rivers announcement?
