Overall, it’s been a quiet offseason for the New England Patriots. That being said, the front office made quite the splash on Sunday when it signed Cam Newton to a one-year contract.
Newton had an exceptional tenure with the Carolina Panthers, but his recent shoulder injury put an end to his time there. Now, he’ll have a chance to revitalize his career with the most successful franchise of this generation.
Prior to landing Newton in free agency, New England’s over/under for wins this season was originally set at 8.5 wins. Vegas has changed its betting odds for the team now that it has a former MVP on its roster.
The win total for the Patriots has moved up to nine wins. It’s not nearly as high as it used to be when Tom Brady was running the show, but it would mark yet another winning season for Bill Belichick.
With the signing of Cam Newton Vegas has moved the projected win total for The Patriots from 8.5 to 9. What’s really surprising is that Vegas had doubts Bill Belichick would have a winning season

A shortened training program could affect Newton’s chances of winning the starting job for Week 1. However, if he’s healthy you’d have to imagine him beating out Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham.
It’s still very possible that Stidham is the future in Foxborough, but Newton is just 31 years old and has far more experience under center.
Newton would add firepower to an offense that didn’t have much to offer outside of Julian Edelman in 2019. That alone should have fans excited about what he brings to the table.
Will the Cam Newton era in New England be successful?
