The NFL is reportedly reviewing a hit by Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict on New England Patriots tight end Martellus Bennett.
Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict has been suspended before for what many would consider to be "dirty" play on the football field. In fact, Burfict missed the first three games of the 2016 season after a hit on Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown in a postseason contest last year. Sunday, Burfict was again in the middle of controversy.
During the Bengals' 35-17 loss to the Patriots, Burfict went low (and from the side) on New England tight end Martellus Bennett early in the fourth quarter. Here's video - it certainly doesn't look great.
Burfict apparently apologized to Bennett after the game, but the NFL isn't letting it slide. According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the league is looking into the play.
It remains to be seen whether Burfict will face discipline, but his history certainly won't help. We'll keep you updated regarding what the NFL rules.
