As bad as the New York Jets looked this past week without quarterback Sam Darnold, nobody wants to see what they look like without him ever again. In the wake of a toenail injury he sustained this past week, that became a very real possibility.

Fortunately for the Jets, the latest report from head coach Adam Gase bodes well for Darnold playing this weekend.

Speaking to the media on Thursday, Gase said that Darnold was "fine, he's just sore." As for his playing status against the Jacksonville Jaguars this weekend, Gase said that he should play.

"Yeah, I mean, as long as nobody steps on him today, we'll be [alright]."

According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, Darnold will be practicing in a protective shoe today.

The Jets got their first win of the season 11 days ago against the Dallas Cowboys. But they fell back down to earth with a thud in a 33-0 loss to New England on Monday Night Football that looked even worse than the final score.

But after the loss to the Patriots, Darnold emerged on the injury report yesterday with a gross-sounding toenail injury that kept him out of practice.

At 1-5 on the season the Jets have no chance of making the playoffs. But Adam Gase needs Darnold in order to have even a chance of beating any team - let alone the Jaguars.
