The New York Jets made a surprising decision to release veteran wide receiver Chris Hogan on Saturday.
Adam Gase and the Jets have been hit hard with injuries at the skill positions this season, wide receiver being no different. The Jets placed Hogan on the injured reserve way back in October after he suffered a high-ankle sprain. Prior to his injury, the Jets wideout caught 14 passes for 118 yards in give games.
Hogan was set to return from the NFL’s injured reserve list in the next week or so. But the Jets are going in a different direction.
The Jets have released Hogan, directly from the injured reserve. The veteran wide receiver is health, but the Jets like who they have at the receiver position at the moment. Hogan is set to become a free agent.
The Jets have released WR Chris Hogan from IR. Placed on IR on Oct. 13 with ankle injury. Now healthy, but team didn’t see a spot for him in WR corps.

It’ll be interesting to see if Chris Hogan gets picked up before the regular season comes to a close. There’s no doubt he provides experience and leadership. He also appears capable of still being a contributor.
The Jets, meanwhile, are in the running for the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. They have yet to win a game yet, and now’s not the time to do so. New York needs the No. 1 pick badly, and right now, it’s going to get it.
The Jets will look to continue tanking this weekend when they play the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
