Peyton Manning is a few years into retirement. It doesn't sound like he's going to be going to work with the New York Jets any time soon.
Earlier this month, rumors emerged linking Manning to the vacant GM position with the Jets. Manning has close ties to the Jets' head coach/interim GM Adam Gase.
However, don't expect to see those rumors become reality. Manning told the New York Post today he was never even contacted by the franchise.
Manning might not be qualified for a GM position in the traditional sense, as he's never worked as an executive in the NFL. However, we've seen several former players make the leap to running a franchise without much experience.
If Manning does want to work, he can choose which television network he wants to talk football on. It is no secret he is coveted by ESPN, Fox and others.
As for the Jets, they fired Mike Maccagnan as general manager earlier this month. The franchise is currently in the process of conducting interviews for the position.
Philadelphia Eagles VP of Player Personnel Joe Douglas, Seahawks Co-Director of Player Personnel Scott Fitterer and Chicago Bears Assistant Director of Player Personnel Champ Kelly have all reportedly been linked to the position.
