While the New York Jets fanbase largely gave up on head coach Adam Gase the day he was hired, starting quarterback Sam Darnold has been among Gase’s staunchest defenders. He was among the loudest voices in support of Gase during their brutal 1-7 start to the season.
But even Darnold’s patience seems to have its limits, and it seemed his frustration with Gase boiled over during the Jets’ Thursday night loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Down 42-21 late in the fourth quarter, Gase called a passing play on 4th-and-1 in Ravens territory despite having found some success running the ball throughout the game. The pass failed, easily deflected by a Ravens defender, and the game was all but over at that point.
On the sidelines after the failed play, Darnold and Gase could be seen bickering.
Video shows that Darnold was clearly frustrated at something Gase said or did, and definitely appeared to tell the head coach off.

Whatever it is that Darnold said to the Jets head coach must have been pretty harsh.
The video shows backup quarterback David Fales looking at Darnold and Gase like he had seen a ghost.

With the loss, the Jets fell to 5-9 on the season, securing their fourth straight losing campaign and their sixth in the last eight years.
But whether Darnold has had enough of Gase or not, he’s going to have to find a way to work with him. Jets owner Christopher Johnson has already guaranteed Gase’s job security for 2020, so the two will be working together for at least another year.
Judging by this exchange, it looks like things could get worse well before they get better.
