Earlier this week, star wide receiver A.J. Green made his return to Cincinnati Bengals practice. Green missed the first half of the season recovering from torn ligaments in his ankle.
The former Georgia star had his eyes on a return to the field against the Baltimore Ravens this weekend. While Bengals fans finally had something to cheer for, it didn’t last long.
Green revealed he suffered a setback at practice this week and is not expected to play this weekend.
According to a report from ESPN, Green is not only out this weekend, but he’s now out “indefinitely.”
Green spoke with reporters about his ankle injury:
“For me, just gotta make sure I feel comfortable going out there and pushing it. For me, just gotta make sure I gotta take care of me first before anything else. Right now, my ankle is saying it’s too much. That’s when you gotta back off.”
Despite suffering the setback, Green said he’s still planning to return at some point this season.
The Bengals might be better off having Green sit out for the rest of the year to get back to full health. We’ll have to wait and see if Green ever suits up in a Bengals uniform again.
