A.J. Green is 31 years old, hasn’t played this season due to injury and is in the final year of his contract. Despite these facts, the Cincinnati Bengals insist they aren’t trading their star wide receiver.
If they change their mind, there will no doubt be a bevy of teams interested in acquiring Green. One might be the Green Bay Packers.
Green Bay’s receiving depth has taken quite the hit, mostly due to the injury to Davante Adams. Adams might be coming back soon, but beyond him, the Packers are relatively thin at the position.
Today, NBC Sports analyst and “Pro Football Talk” co-host Chris Simms said on the air he wants to see Green go to Green Bay, while his colleague Mike Florio suggested the New England Patriots.
“OK, jeez. Why? Screw the Patriots. They got everything,” Simms said Wednesday. “They got Edelman, they got Josh Gordon — they’re good. Every time I watch film there’s guys wide open. They’re open, so they don’t need him. I want to see A.J. Green traded, too, but I want him to go to Green Bay. They need him. Go to Green Bay, OK? Aaron Rodgers and A.J. Green, that would be fun to watch. They got (Marquez) Valdes-Scantling, they got “We don’t know your name” No. 81 who drops balls. That would be awesome.”
Green had 46 receptions for 694 yards and six touchdowns in nine games last season. It was the first time in his eight-year career that he didn’t make the Pro Bowl.
Green has been sidelined since the summer with an ankle issue.
