Zac Taylor’s first year as head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals might have gone just a little better if star wideout AJ Green hadn’t missed the entire season with injuries. Now, the seven-time Pro Bowler is a free agent, and it’s widely expected that he’ll take his talents elsewhere.
Still, now a couple of weeks into the 2020 offseason, Taylor is still giving fans hope regarding Green. On Thursday’s edition of the Bengals Beat Podcast, Taylor stated that he expects Green to be with the Bengals in 2020.
The Bengals have over $44 million in cap space, but that number could rise quickly if they drop Andy Dalton in favor of drafting a rookie QB like Joe Burrow, Tua Tagovailoa, or Justin Herbert. Green has played his entire career in Cincinnati since the Bengals drafted him No. 4 overall in 2011.
He recorded 602 receptions for 8,907 yards and 63 touchdowns in his first eight years with the team.
“He’s a guy that we’re excited about to have part of this team, first and foremost. That’s what matters right now. As we go through the offseason, we’ll figure out how it best fits. But right now, we expect him to be a part of the team. We want him to be a part of the team.
“He’s certainly been a valuable member for the last couple years and done some great things. I’m excited to coach him, really for the first time this next season.”

The Bengals went just 2-14 in 2019 under first-year head coach Zac Taylor. But major changes are expected in 2020, especially on offense.
If the Bengals draft one of the aforementioned QBs in the first round, they will undoubtedly be better off having a top-flight wideout like Green on their side.
