The Cleveland Browns have had a first quarter to forget tonight out in Santa Clara. Baker Mayfield has especially played poorly.
Mayfield didn’t complete his first pass of the game until right before the end of the opening stanza. Prior to that, he turned the ball over twice.
The first turnover came on when he was intercepted by San Francisco 49ers cornerback Richard Sherman. The second came when he was stripped of the football in his own territory and the 49ers recovered.
At one point, Mayfield was 0-for-4 passing with an interception while Odell Beckham Jr. was 1-for-1 with a 20-yard completion.

It hasn’t been a smooth start to the season for Mayfield. Freddie Kitchens’ playcalling has been questionable at times, the Browns’ offensive line is porous and the second-year quarterback has been panicky and loose with the football.
Of course, there’s still time to turn this game and the year around. Mayfield needs to start doing that now though.
