As bad as losing a game to the Seattle Seahawks may have been, the prospect of an injury to quarterback Baker Mayfield is unthinkable. Mayfield left the game at one point after a big hit and offered a status update on the injury he sustained.
Speaking to the media after the game, Mayfield revealed that he took a hit to his hip but played through the pain. He admitted that it hurt to play like that but accepted it as part of the game.
“It hurts,” he said, “but it’s a physical game of football.”
Mayfield did not miss a snap due to the injury and made it clear that the idea of not playing was out of the question.
“There was no conversation,” Mayfield said. “It was not even a thought.”
Despite his determination to play, though, he struggled significantly in the second half.
Mayfield finished the game 22-of-37 for 249 yards and three total touchdowns but with three interceptions.
With the loss, the Browns fall to 2-4 on the season.
Fortunately for the Browns, whatever injury Mayfield may have suffered will have time to heal. The Browns have a bye next week before they take on the New England Patriots in Week 8.
